Holidays are a time to relax and have fun and hiring a car should be part ofthe fun and enjoyment.

Once you touch down at Palma Airport and feel the Spanish sun beating down on you there's nothing better than jumping into a cool air conditioned hire car as you make your way to your holiday accommodation.

The reason for the shortage was due to a combination of unexpected demand and increased car buying costs, resulting in car hire firms having reduced supply.

The outlook for this year (2010) is much more positive with many car hire companies taking on extra cars to cope with the demand.

This will come as good news for holidaymakers who can enjoy renting a car and exploring some of the areas of Majorca that aren't easily accessible on foot.

Although most car hire companies will have more cars available this summer it's still important for anyone visiting Majorca to book a hire car as soon as possible to take advantage of the best rates and to avoid disappointment.

Comparing prices online is usually a good idea, but remember that whilst price comparison websites will give you an indication of the best prices on offer, lower prices are sometimes available by going directly to the supplier.

Holidaymakers who hire a car in Majorca are also advised to check the fuel policy of the hire car company when booking as some will charge for a full tank of fuel even if the tank is full when the car is returned.
