Majorca Health
Majorca Health needs to be considered before going to Majorca, this will leave you no qualms when on your holiday.
Availability & Cost of Health
The no.1 hospital on the island is in Palma, which is the Son Dureta. Other hospitals are located in Manacor and Inca. There are English and German speaking staff at the hospitals and also at the clinics located at the main costal tourist resorts. The pharmacies are very good on the island, they give great advice and also sell medication over the counter. Every district has a pharmacy open throughout the day and if one happens to close then there will be a sign with the nearest pharmacy on the door.

Environmental / Hazards
Symptoms such as headaches, tiredness and dizziness may be the cause of heat Exhaustion that occurs from considerable loss of fluids. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration and later Heat Exhaustion. Keeping cool is a must in this scenario, have a cold shower and rest next to a fan. As a result of Heat Exhaustion you loose fluids and salt by sweating, treat this with salty fluids, like soup and a table spoon of salt.
Heat Stroke is a greater hazard than Heat Exhaustion, it is the same but with a few more results such as hyperactive and irrational behaviour and at worse loss of consciousness and death. The same procedures are needed as a Heat stroke, cooling the body and fanning. Medical help would be next step.
Insect Bites & Stings
Unless you have a severe allergy to bees and wasps stings, they will not cause any problem. It is recommended if you have severe allergy to carry an eppipen or a similar adrenaline injection.
Watch out for the black and yellow striped centipedes, they have a nasty sting, but non fatal.
Also be wary of hairy caterpillars which when connected with send off tiny hairs that will irritate the skin.
If you see a sign on a beach, letting you know that there is a high risk of jellyfish in the water, be wary.
It isn’t a good idea to go for a swim if you can see the jellyfish. Stings can be quite painful, when I was fifteen I got stung eight times in one go, but eight small ones and when I was seventeen I was stung while snorkelling and it was the same size as the eight put together, it wasn't serious.
The most important things to remember are, don’t put fresh water on the sting, and seek assistance through the Red Cross stands on the beach if pain persists, put a product such as vinegar on the sting. The sting will heal within a day, but the mark will be visible for a few days, depends on the scale of the jellyfish and its species.
Mosquitoes are a pain when sleeping and irritating in the day. Good advice would be to use lemon based products such as lemon shampoo and you can buy lemon sprays which protect from mosquito bites. The bites are rarely serious, usually a red itchy swollen circle.
Water
Water is a big part in Majorca Health which people are unsure about.Personally I don’t drink tap water in Majorca because I hear it isn’t very nice, though I do brush my teeth with tap water. Instead it is possible to buy mineral water bottles from mostly any supermarket or small shop, it doesn’t cost much.
Travelling with Children
My Brother, Sister and I were all under the age of one when flying to Majorca for the first time. Be sure to check that your children have received all their vaccinations.
Majorca Health should be covered now.
